Procedures Performed at Brevard Surgery Center
Some of the surgeries we perform most often at our world-class surgery center include:
Cataract Surgery
Patients whose vision has become hazy due to cataracts can restore clear vision with cataract surgery. An ophthalmologist removes the natural, cloudy lens and replaces it with an IOL (intraocular lens). Patients may choose from a variety of premium lenses that not only eliminate cataracts but also can correct for nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism for sharper vision with lowered dependence on prescription eyewear.
Glaucoma Procedures
An accumulation of pressure in the eye can gradually damage the optic nerve and cause irreversible vision loss. Our doctors offer a range of glaucoma treatments, including some minimally invasive treatments:
- Selective laser trabeculoplasty uses laser energy to help open up obstructed drainage so that fluid can leave the eye and restore normal ocular pressure.
- XEN implant is a stent (or aqueous shunt) that creates a channel to drain fluid out of the eye and re-balance ocular pressure.
- Goniotomy is a surgery that generates an opening in the trabecular meshwork for better fluid drainage.
Blepharoplasty
Also known as an upper eyelid lift, upper blepharoplasty tightens the eyelid muscles and carefully removes a small amount of excess fat and skin from above the eye so that drooping eyelids can open more fully, rejuvenating the face and expanding the field of vision.
Refractive Lens Exchange
This is a refractive surgery that replaces the eye’s natural lens with a premium IOL that corrects vision at one or more distances for clearer sight to help limit dependence on eyeglasses or contact lenses.
DSEK
Descemet stripping endothelial keratoplasty (DSEK) is a modern way to improve the cornea without needing to undergo a full corneal transplant. This surgery involves removing and replacing just the innermost corneal layer rather than the entirety of the cornea. It is used to help patients with Fuchs’ dystrophy, an eye injury, or a corneal complication related to a previous eye surgery.
